Codes of standards, practice and prohibitions in advertising, sponsorship, and other forms of commercial promotion in broadcasting service

The Ministerial Codes were drawn up by the then Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht further to Section 4 (1) of the Broadcasting Act, 1990. These codes were amended in October 1999 in order to accommodate the provisions of the European Television Without Frontiers directive.

 

These codes cover Standards, Practice and Prohibitions in Advertising along with other forms of Commercial Promotions. These codes will be replaced by a General Advertising Code, which the BCI will begin developing in the second half of 2005.
