BCI Network Supports
An objective of the BCI’s Training and Development Policy is to promote sustainable networks in addressing effectively the training and development needs of stakeholders in the broadcasting sector. In 2007, the BCI initiated a network development and support project with the aim of developing the operation and governance practices of the industry networks that receive funding from the BCI. The project enables networks to undertake a review of practices, policies and procedures and to identify any training or support requirements. It provides networks with extra resources to strengthen their operations and to ensure that they meet the needs of their members while complying with relevant legal and financial responsibilities.
Funding is provided for training and facilitation which is tailored to each network’s needs. To support this process and to assist other Board and Committees working throughout the broadcasting industry, the BCI, in conjunction with the Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups developed A Good Practice Handbook for Networks. The Handbook, launched in February 2008 provides guidance in a range of topics such as governance, financial responsibilities, and running effective board meetings.
The BCI hosts an annual information sharing event for the industry network. Representatives from each network attend and provide an update on their activities. The BCI provides an overview of the Training and Development activity plan for the year and updates on new projects or developments.
