BCI welcomes High Court ruling on licensing decision for
Alternative Rock service
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) today (November 1st) warmly welcomed the decision of the High Court regarding the award of the local radio licence for the Alternative Rock Music Service for Dublin City and County.
In a judgment issued this morning by the Hon. Mr Justice Philip O’Sullivan, the Commission’s decision to award the licence for the Al ternative Rock Music Service for Dublin City and County to Dublin Rock Radio Limited (T/A Phantom FM ) was upheld. The decision was challenged by Scrollside Ltd., (T/A Zed FM)
BCI Chief Executive Michael O’Keeffe commented: “The BCI strongly holds the view that the process for the award of the licence was fair, open and transparent. The licence was awarded to Phantom FM as they were considered to be the best applicant following a detailed and extensive consideration of all the applications. We are delighted that both the process and the decision have been upheld in today’s judgment. We now look forward to furthering contract negotiations with the successful applicant, Phantom FM with a view to bringing an alternative rock music service to listeners in Dublin at the earliest possible date”.
