CRAOL is the representative body for community radio stations across the country. The Forum was established in 1996 to facilitate networking between Community and Community of Interest radio stations. The Forum represents all Community and community of interest radio stations across the country.
Membership of the forum is open to all licensed stations subscribing to the Community Radio Charter.
This International Charter promotes the ideas of democratic ownership and control and not-for-profit operations. It also commits the community stations to promote the right to communicate, assist the free flow of information and opinions and encourage creative expression and contribute to the democratic process and a pluralist society.
The Forum has further approved the position of community radio within the voluntary and community sector and sees the main role of community radio as being one of community development.
CRAOL is a FETAC accredited training delivery centre and has been working on the development of two training modules on specific community radio broadcasting skills.
The group also host an annual Community Radio Training Féile to offers community broadcasters the opportunity to participate in training on variety of relevant topics.
