Learning Waves - Skillnets

Learning Waves, a training network for commercial radio stations, was established in 2004. This network is overseen by a board of representatives of the twenty eight stations, three industry networks (INN, IRS and Éist) and the BCI.

The network successfully receives funding from Skillnets, the national initiative supporting the establishment of training networks. The funding has supported the development of a number of FETAC accredited courses in the areas of Communications, Business Management, Customer Service and Human Resource Management. The modules were devised and written by sub-committees of Learning Waves, involving station personnel across the country.

Additionally, trainers have been recruited from within the industry, who were awarded FETAC accreditation. This is a significant move for the sector indicating a strong commitment to the development of a training culture and the establishment of training standards. It also illustrates the benefits of the partnership approach adopted by the Commission vis-à-vis the industry.
