Section 39: Community Content Contracts

Because the Commission will negotiate carriage of these services with the carriage operations, work has already begun on these services. Meetings have already taken place with various interest groups with the common objective of delivering community television programme services. It is hoped to continue work on these contracts with a view to awarding the first community content contract in 2005. The licensing of these services is guided by Sections 39 and 40 of the 2001 Act. Community Television will be licensed to serve a specific geographical community and/or community of interest. These services will promote and support active participation in, and demonstrate commitment to, principles of community empowerment and community development.

 

The Commission has recently sought applications for the provision of community television services in Dublin City and Navan Town. Further details on these services can be found below.
