BCI signs television content contract with City Channel

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has today (Tuesday July 5th) signed a ten year broadcasting contract with City Channel Limited (trading as City Channel) for the provision of a television service further to Section 41 (Cable/MMD Content Contract) of the Broadcasting Act 2001. The service will commence broadcasting on September 5th next.
City Channel will provide a niche television service, dedicated to the interests of the residents of Dublin City and County. Programming will include lifestyle subjects such as Motoring, Property, Local Government, Dublin Culture, Whats-On Guide, Shopping and Travel, in addition to transport and weather updates.
City Channel will broadcast 24 hours a day to Dublin City and County customers of ntl digital as part of ntl´s standard television subscription package. It will also be available to all digital MMDS and cable customers in the Dublin area.
Commenting on the signing, Conor J. Maguire, Chairperson of the BCI said: "I would like to congratulate City Channel on today´s contract signing and thank all involved in the contract negotiation process. I am confident that this service will provide the viewers of Dublin with a diverse and entertaining service. We wish the station every success for the duration of the contract."
City Channel was represented at the signings by David Harvey, Chief Executive Officer and Vanessa Kaminski, Programme Controller. Conor J. Maguire, Chairperson and Celene Craig, Secretary to the Board of the BCI, signed on behalf of the Commission.
