BCI ANNOUNCES RADIO LICENSING DECISIONS

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has today (Monday, January 22nd) made the following announcements with regard to commercial licensing further to decisions taken at its board meeting earlier this morning.

Limerick City and County local sound broadcasting service

The BCI has awarded a ten year licence in principle to Limerick’s Live 95FM for the provision of a local sound broadcasting service for Limerick City and County on the FM band.  Limericks’ Live 95FM has held the contract for this service since 1997.

Two applications were received for this contract as part of the re-licensing process for the franchise area.  Both applicants, Limerick’s Live 95 FM and Limerick’s Heart FM, were called to a public oral hearing for the licence, which was held in Limerick on November 13th last.

The award of the contract is subject to the successful outcome of contract negotiations and further details will be announced in the coming months.

Quasi-National Christian & Religious Service

Five applications were received for a new quasi-national Christian and Religious sound broadcasting service on the AM band.  Following consideration of the applications at today’s meeting, the Commission has decided to call the following two groups to the next stage in the process.
