BCI RE-LAUNCHES NEW ADVENTURES SCHEME AS PART OF NEW TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) today announced the re-launch of its New Adventures in Broadcasting Scheme. The Scheme aims to support the development of new, innovative and sustainable programming within the radio sector. The re-launched Scheme is open to all commercial, community and public service broadcasters.

This year a total fund of €160,000 is available through grants of up to €10,000 per individual programme application.  The Scheme encourages the production of innovative programming, which adds to the range and choice of radio programming available and which meets the diverse needs and interests of listeners.  A new dimension to the New Adventures in Broadcasting Scheme is the introduction of a structured opportunity for learning and development.  This will be introduced through the provision of three workshops for participants.

The New Adventures scheme is a key element of the BCI’s €700,000 Training and Development programme – its largest investment to date.  The programme aims to encourage and enable the development of skills and standards within the broadcasting sector generally.

Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of BCI said:

“The New Adventures in Broadcasting scheme recognises the energy and creativity of the many participants in the community, commercial and public radio sectors. Previous recipients of funding from New Adventures have gone on to win international broadcasting awards”.

He continued: “The BCI has recently revised and published its Training & Development Policy, which now embraces and reinforces recognised best practice in this area. The policy aims to assist the sector in developing and strengthening its training and development activities and processes and to that end the Commission has increased its funding support by €140,000”.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the New Adventures in Broadcasting Scheme is 12 noon on the 8th June 2007.
