BCI FUNDING SCHEME ‘SOUND & VISION’ SUPPORTS FIVE FILMS SCREENED AT THIS YEAR’S GALWAY FILM FLEADH

Five Irish films, supported by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) Sound & Vision Funding Scheme, are to be screened at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, it was announced today. The films granted funding through Sound & Vision are Kings, Garage, 32A, Cré na Cille and Fear na nOileán.

Sound and Vision is a grant scheme designed to support the production of new television and radio programmes in Irish or English in the areas of Irish culture, heritage and experience and adult literacy. The Scheme is the result of the Broadcasting (Funding) Act, 2003 and is funded by 5% of the television licence fee.

Speaking about the five films supported by the BCI, Michael O'Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BCI, said: "The BCI is delighted to be associated with these five films that will be featured at Galway Film Fleadh this year. We are very proud of our funding involvement in all five projects. The selection of the films to be screened at this prestigious festival endorses the worth of a funding scheme such as Sound & Vision, as well as the credibility and depth of each original piece of film-making."

The Galway Film Fleadh, a six-day international film event held every July, welcomes a diversity of film-making from around the world. The Fleadh is very much a filmmakers' festival, and attracts directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds, who present their work before their peers. The Fleadh’s diverse audience is made up of the general cinema-going public, film buffs, student filmmakers, industry professionals and invited guests.
