BCI to enter into new television content contract with Chorus

The BCI has today (Thursday May 26th) announced that, subject to the successful conclusion of negotiations, it will enter into a contract with Chorus Communication Limited (trading as Chorus) for the provision of a television service further to Section 41 (Cable/MMD Content Contract) of the Broadcasting Act 2001. The duration of this contract, when concluded, will be for ten years.

Chorus TV channel will be a development of the channel known as Chorus Sports and it is planned to provide general programming incorporating magazine, chat and discussion, documentaries and feature programmes to include current affairs, community access, arts and culture, music and entertainment. Sport will continue to contribute a significant amount of programming to the service, which currently includes coverage of Hurling and Football matches, Irish motor sports along with previews and reviews of Irish sporting events from around the country.

Chorus TV channel will be available to Chorus analogue and digital customers as the network is upgraded. The Chorus television service operates in the South West, Mid West, Midlands and South East of the country.

Speaking in relation to the announcement, Conor J. Maguire, BCI Chairperson said, "We are very pleased to enter into contract negotiations with Chorus. This niche service will complement the existing broadcasting services available to Chorus customers. We look forward to the satisfactory conclusion of contract negotiations with the company in the near future."
