18th May
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Fitzgerald to the position of Commissioning Officer of the Broadcasting (Funding) Scheme. The scheme is principally designed to support new television and radio programmes and is funded through an amount equal to 5% of the television licence fee.
Catherine will be responsible for managing the application and awards processes of the Scheme. She will also play a key role in evaluating applications and recommending the awards under the Scheme, in addition to being involved in negotiations with successful applicants.
Prior to her appointment, Catherine worked with the Irish Film Board in their business affairs section during which time she established strong links with key members of the independent production sector. Catherine also has previous experience in the film and television production sector.
Speaking about the appointment, Michael O´Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BCI said, "The Commission is delighted to announce the appointment of Catherine to the position of Commissioning Officer. We are confident that her valuable experience gained with the Irish Film Board, together with her background in production will enrich the development of the Broadcasting (Funding) Scheme over the coming years. Preparations for the launch of the Scheme are now well advanced and we look forward to calling for scheme proposals in the very near future".
