BCI LAUNCHES 2009 MEDIA RESEARCH FUNDING SCHEME
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has today (30th April 2009) announced details of project grants available under its Media Research Funding Scheme. The Scheme was launched in 2007 and, to date, has funded five research projects to a total value of €95,560.
Applications are being invited for short-term research projects of 3-9 months duration. It is the BCI’s intention that a total of two short-term projects will receive funding in 2009, to a value of €16,000 per project.
The Commission has identified a number of areas of key strategic interest as themes for proposed research projects. These research areas are in keeping with the organisation’s own research strategy and are also particularly relevant to the Commission in anticipation of the functions outlined for the new Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. The themes of stated interest to the Commission include: implementing the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive; the economic impact of Sound & Vision, the Broadcasting Funding Scheme; the new Broadcasting Act; Digital broadcasting in Ireland; strands of broadcasting in Ireland and; Codes research. A full list of possible topics is available in the Scheme documentation.
Speaking about today’s announcement, the BCI’s Chief Executive, Michael O’Keeffe said: “Research is important to the Commission in informing our thinking on broadcasting matters and in assisting with evidence-based decision making, so we are delighted to be in a position to fund research at this time. The Media Research Funding Scheme is a valuable mechanism for the Commission to develop links with the sector and third level institutions and to drive quality research initiatives”.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday, 12th June next. Parties interested can download the 2009 Media Research Funding Scheme Guide to Applicants and Application Form, from theCommission’s web-site. Additional information on the BCI’s Media Research Funding Scheme is available on-line, on request from the Commission at 01-6441200, or by e-mailing ikennelly@bci.ie.
