JNLR weekday figures for 2004 released

The JNLR/TNS mrbi survey results for January to December 2004 were released today (Thursday 17th February). The total adult population listening to a mix of national, regional and local radio throughout the country was 87% (+1).

The figures presented in the survey are matched against comparable figures for the survey period January to December 2003. The main highlights and changes when compared to this particular survey period are detailed as follows:

National
The ´reach´ figure for local/regional stations increased by one percentage point to 55% while most of the national stations registered small fluctuations in their listened yesterday figures; RTÉ Radio One 27%(-1), 2FM 24% (-1), Today FM 15% (+1), and Lyric FM 3% (same).

Market share covering the key 7a.m.-7p.m. period showed an increase for any regional/local station of 47% (+1). RTÉ Radio One´s market share was 24% (-1) with 2FM and Today FM achieving market shares of 17% (same) and 10% (+1) respectively. Market share for Lyric FM increased to 2% (+1).

National (excluding Dublin and Cork)-local stations
There were many fluctuations in both the yesterday listenership and market share figures of local stations during the period January-December 2004. The top five local radio stations for the survey period were as follows:

Regional-South East
2004 marked the first full year figures for the regional radio station, Beat 102-103FM. The station achieved listenership of 19% and market share of 8% during the year.

Dublin-local stations
FM104´s listened yesterday figure remained the same at 20%, while 98FM´s figure decreased by three percentage points to 19% for the period. Q102 recorded a reach of 12% (+3), with Spin 1038 increasing their listened yesterday figure to 9%(+4). NewsTalk 106FM reached 5% (+1) of listeners, while Dublin´s Country 106.8FM achieved a listenership figure of 3% (same).

Cork-local stations
96 FM County Sound recorded a reach figure of 45%(-4) for the period while Red 104-106 FM had a listenership of 14% (-2) in the Cork city and county franchise area.
