BCI LAUNCHES 2006 COMMUNITY RADIO SUPPORT SCHEME

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has today (April 13th) announced the launch of the 2006 Community Radio Support Scheme to provide support for licensed community and community of interest radio stations.
Since 1998, the BCI has been providing funding to community radio stations to undertake evaluations with the ultimate aim of building capacity within the individual stations and within the community radio sector. The funding offers stations an opportunity to carry out key review work that will help overall performance and progress.
The total fund this year is €58,000 which will be m ade available through grants of up to €1,500 for Internal Evaluations and up to €5,000 for External Evaluations.
Commenting on the launch Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive, said: ‘We are delighted continue our support of the community radio sector through the Community Radio Support Scheme. The scheme has m ade a significant contribution to the development of individual community stations and also the community radio sector as a whole. As the sector further grows and develops we look forward to receiving an increased number of applications in the coming weeks and are offering support to stations seeking to access funding, through our Training and Development Officer.”
Community Radio Support Scheme 2006 brochures containing all info rmation regarding the scheme as well as the application forms are available from the BCI offices at 2 – 5 Warrington Place , Dublin 2 or on the BCI website. The scheme will run until November 2006 and the deadline for applications is Wednesday 10th May.
