BCI RECEIVES SIX APPLICATIONS FOR
COMMUNITY SOUND BROADCASTING SERVICE

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) today announced the receipt of six applications for community sound broadcasting services on the FM band. These applications were received in response to an advertisement in the national and local press on May 25th last.


Four of the applicants are existing contractors seeking renewal of their current contracts.  Two of the applicants (Ballyhoura Community Radio and Jet FM) are new groups seeking to establish services.  In all cases, the six groups in question are the sole applicants for the relevant franchise areas.

All applications submitted to the BCI will be made available for public inspection from Monday 31st July next. From that date, they can be viewed by appointment through the Commission’s offices at 2-5 Warrington Place. Applications will also be available on-line at www.bci.ie during the course of that week.

It is anticipated that the applications will be considered by the Board of the BCI in the Autumn.
