BCI SIGNS CONTRACT WITH P5tv

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has today (Friday 11th August) announced the recent signing of a ten year broadcasting contract with P5tv Limited for a community television service for Navan, Co. Meath and its environs.  The service, which is licensed under Section 39 of the Broadcasting Act, 2001 will be launched at the end of September. 

 

P5tv is a community channel that will provide a range of programming, including local news, current affairs, sport, education, music, adult literacy, and Irish language.


Commenting on the signing, Conor J. Maguire, Chairperson of the BCI said: “I would like to wish P5tv every success with this community television licence.  This is the second community television service to be licensed under the 2001 Act by the Commission.  We are delighted to licence such services, which are building on the success of community radio, and are ground-breaking initiatives which will benefit both the local community and those involved in providing the service”.


P5tv will be available on the local cable system and will broadcast for three hours per week in year one.  The group have also commenced a community needs assessment project, which is funded by the BCI.  This important initiative will investigate the extent to which production facilities, training and resources are available to the community to best serve its interests in respect of those needs.

 

P5tv were represented at the signing by Kevin MacNamidhe and Máire O’Donovan, Directors of the station.  Conor J. Maguire, Chairperson and Ciarán Kissane, Head of Broadcasting, signed on behalf of the BCI.
